Napoli, Città di Dio

I’ve never been a football fan but my partner is, and so the first thing we did when we arrived in Napoli was to make our way to Largo Maradona in the Spanish Quarter. The narrow alley leading up to the main mural was incredibly busy, bustling with die hard fans, random tourists and street vendors, and it was a truly beautiful sight. Diego Maradona’s death and the legacy he left behind will always be a crucial part of the city’s identity and it was touching to see how locals and tourists alike celebrate this legend, to the point of making him a god.

Napoli is a loud, chaotic, religious, romantic, dirty and vibrant city all at once - and the mix of all of those characteristics make you love it all the more.

The weather being a lot better than we had expected, we decided to skip the archaeological museum and the Palazzo Reale and just spend the day walking around the city instead - a good decision, and one that means I will have to go back soon.
