Nice Colours

I just came back from a long weekend in Nice and - because the joke never gets old - it was very nice indeed. Even though - or maybe because - the city was already pretty busy and tourist season was already in full swing, it was a more than welcome break and much-needed energy boost after the seemingly never ending Viennese winter greyness. It was stormy, rainy, sunny, fresh and warm all at once and I was happy to soak in the colours - the blue sea and sky, the yellow and pink facades, the green leaves of palm trees, orange and fuchsia flowers already in full bloom and the green, red and white striped awnings of the marché aux fleurs (flower market).

As someone who is not a big of shopping, I surprised myself wanting to get all the multi-coloured jewellery and clothes I laid my eyes on. I admit I also missed France for the food and wine. Ingredients at the market were fresh and delicious, every meal we had was a treat, but most of all, the people working at the market and the shop owners who, without fail, set their little foldable tables out at lunchtime and settled down for a good home made lunch, or one provided by a nearby restaurant, accompanied by an obligatory pitcher of red wine, made my day.

Here is a short, colourful collection of a long weekend in Nice.
